Soft tissue work

If you've ever dealt with a nagging tendon issue, persistent tightness after an injury, or scar tissue that just won't let go, you know how frustrating recovery can feel. The Graston Technique is one of the most effective tools we use for exactly these situations — a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) that helps us find and treat the root cause of soft tissue dysfunction.

Using specially designed stainless steel instruments, we're able to detect restrictions, adhesions, and scar tissue with a level of precision that hands alone sometimes can't achieve. The instruments act as an extension of the clinician's hands — giving us the sensitivity to locate the problem and the leverage to address it directly.

"It's not just about breaking things down — it's about giving the body the signal it needs to heal properly."

Why it works

When soft tissue is injured, the body lays down scar tissue as part of the healing process. The trouble is that this tissue is less organized and flexible than what it replaced — binding structures, limiting range of motion, and contributing to chronic pain. Graston instruments create a controlled response in the targeted area, triggering fresh blood flow and cellular activity to regions that have been stuck in a low-grade dysfunction. The result is a tissue environment that's primed to heal.

It's an effective approach for many common conditions: tendinopathy of the Achilles, patellar, or rotator cuff; plantar fasciitis; IT band syndrome; carpal tunnel; tennis elbow; and post-surgical scar tissue, among others. Most clients notice meaningful improvement within the first few sessions.

What to expect

A Graston session typically involves 5–10 minutes of direct work per area. We apply a lubricant to the skin and use the instruments in a series of scanning and treatment strokes. You may feel pressure and some sensitivity, and it's common to see temporary redness afterward — a normal sign that circulation is increasing to the area. Following treatment, we move directly into therapeutic exercise to reinforce the gains in tissue mobility. That combination of manual work and purposeful movement is what makes results last.

Is it right for you?

If you have a soft tissue complaint that hasn't responded to rest or stretching, Graston may be the missing piece. During your evaluation, we'll assess whether it's appropriate for your condition and set realistic expectations for your recovery. The goal is always the same: help you move well, hurt less, and get back to what you love.
